Mom Story #3

Spooky Old Tree

My Mom loved to read to the kids. But Spooky Old Tree was the boys favorite. It started with Carter. He learned the words in this book before any. He knew the exact right time the crocodile was going to appear and he would snap before she could get the page turned. The bears meet a great sleeping bear at the end. It doesn't sleep for long and they run up a ladder, through the floor, down the slide and out the door. I can still hear the way Carter would say it. She loved it. When Gabe came along he loved it almost as much as Carter. He added his own ways to make the book fun. The little bears get the Shivers, but Gabe calls them the Shiverings. So now when we read the book, we have to add Carter and Gabe's ways of reading it. She wouldn't let anyone read it the right way. The best part of the book is when the little bears are running fast, home again safe at last. To their Momma.

I loved the Shiverings. It just makes more sense that way.

Okay, that one made me cry a little bit. I love that book but nobody can read it to our kids like she could.
