Stake Conference Just for Me

Have you ever been to a church meeting or listened to General Conference, and felt like all the speakers were speaking just to you? I had the best weekend. I attended the Saturday adult session and I came home with the best feeling. One talk addressed something I have totally been struggling with, and it was a total answer to my prayers. On Sunday we had the 8:00am session. Aaron was out of town, so that meant 4 kids and myself to the church by 7:30. I thought I had a great excuse not to go, but as I learned in a talk the night before, the Lord can't answer your prayers if you don't try. So, bright and early at 7:45 am me and my 4 kids got a hard cold seat at the church. It was so good. I was so glad I went. My kids were good, even Gracie. I didn't even have to take her out. The speakers were so good. Again I swear they were all answers to my prayers. Here is a list of the things I learned:

  • We have callings for a lot of reasons, one of which is so we stay active.
  • We have things like FHE, Scripture Study and Family Prayer to help us raise out kids in this ugly world.
  • Preach The Gospel isn't just for missionaries.
  • Throw the things out of your cart that are weighing you down. There are a lot of things that weigh down your day that you simply can do without.
  • Everyone has struggles, but none are harder than Joseph Smith's and look what he accomplished.
  • When Satan is knocking on your door, just ask our Heavenly Father to keep him away.
  • I need to read "For the Strength of Youth" pamphlet. A youth speaker talked about friends, and music. If a friend doesn't lift you up and bring joy to your life, they aren't worth the effort. Music can be a good thing or a bad thing. It can bring good to your mind or bad. I need to look at my music library.
  • Fasting and Prayer work. We were asked last year to fast and pray for moisture. President Bingham showed us charts of the severe drought the months before out fast. They were all red meaning severe drought. The month after the fast, all blue meaning sufficient moisture. It was so cool. My kids were amazed.
  • The atonement is ours, and repentance is a wonderful thing.

Sorry, I know it isn't Sunday, but you just got your Sacrament meeting for next week. I really wanted to write this all down so I won't forget it all. It feels so good to come home from there with a new attitude and feeling like prayers really are answered.

I love that feeling when you know it is for you! I wonder how many people that went to conference felt that same thing.

ZZZZZzzzz..

Oh, sorry. I just have that natural reaction to church stuff.

Good post, though. Isn't it true that we've been taught so many things well in advance of when we actually need them. It amazes me that we've been taught all this time about food storage, and preparedness, and such. I always imagined I would only need enough to get us through for a few days in the case of a natural disaster. It never crossed my mind that the point to all this teaching may have been for an economic crisis. I guess I don't know it all.

It was a wonderful conference and I'm glad that I could get a sitter so Andrew and I could go to the Saturday night session together-all the talks were terrific and inspiring.

So here's a mom tip - even though you didn't ask for one. I always kept the For Strength of Youth pamphlet in a drawer in the kitchen. Anytime my kids were wanting to do something, I whipped that baby out and read whatever paragraph applied to what they were trying to get away with. It's always way better when the Lord tells them no instead of me.

We had a regional conference once and the entire meeting was for me! There were answers to my prayers and important information that was good for us to hear. It's so weird how it works but, it is great too. I love knowing that the Lord will speak to us through others when we need it. I liked the part about going to our meetings and doing our part so that the Lord can answer our prayers. I have seen it work both ways. People that needed to be at the meetings and weren't and really missed out on something that may have helped change their lives. Thanks for the uplifting post.
