Good News

Yesterday in our good news moment in Relief Society Camille said "school starts tomorrow". It was followed by cheers and clapping, a little irreverent, but I was cheering like I won an Oscar. Much to my dismay it didn't quite go as planned. Does it ever? First off I awoke at 3:00 am to lightning and thunder. Not just little thunder, great big cackling thunder. Thunder like at Lake Powell coming down the canyon thunder. The lightning was just as awesome. Raining in Las Vegas you say? Oh yes, only on the first day of school. So, the rest of the night I lay awake wondering if it would still be raining by 8:00 when everyone had to leave. YEP! So, my dilemma was this, I have to leave before the girls get home to pick up Carter. The original plan was that they would ride their bikes home and then just wait for me to get home. Can't ride bikes in the rain! Aaron left our house 45min before Carter had to be at school. As of now 8:53 they aren't there yet. Every traffic light is out, and there is flooding everywhere. I finally decided to let my girls ride their bikes and I would drive. Only to realize the base to Gracie's car seat is in Aaron's car. Somewhere on his way across town. Don't tell, but we drove illegally. As I pulled out of my gate I had to park. Should have just walked. So we finally get in the school, get girls where they need to go. Whew! Oh no, not yet. McKinley chases after me, "I forgot my lunch". Does this surprise any of you? Does it surprise you any more that she was throwing a fit? She finally got it together and went to class. Upon returning home with a very tired baby, I can't find Chester. I was calling him and calling him. I looked in all of his usual hiding places, and he is no where. But, I did find the base to Gracie's car seat. Aaron remembered to get it out, of course. All I can think is I have 6 hours to find Chester before the kids get home. I put Gracie down ready to go out in the rain to find the dog, and he is standing outside at the back door. Whew! Yeah, he was outside the whole time I was at school. Boy am I lucky. So, Aaron just called and they finally made it to Carters school, 30 min late. Now I am going to go back to bed and try again. Oh yeah, I have to get Kinney her lunch. Never mind. I am just going to sit here for a second in the silence and enjoy it.

I heard about the rain storm you guys had- NOT FUN!! It seems like every year on the first day of school it doesn't matter how prepared I am- something goes wrong and we're running late and feeling very frazzled! At least you have a moment to yourself- until Gracie wakes up!

Sounds pretty crazy. I wonder how my mom and Lani handled it? I tried calling them but can't get either one.

When you don't use a base, can't you still strap the car seat in and be okay. Isn't the base just for convenience? Maybe not.

Don't worry, it all starts over tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day.... Ha Ha

Sounds like a great morning. I would never guessed all of that happened you seemed quite well at breakfast. Maybe you can get a nap in. Goodluck!

What a morning we all had! Luckily it stopped raining before it was our turn to get to school at 9:30!

Isn't that how the first day of school is supposed to go? You will have to let us all know how Carter does. Did he wear his cardboard pants?

so you didn't mention any of this at breakfast! You must have had a nice quiet hour in between school and Camille's. Ok. so i'm only now commenting even though I regularly read your blog. I've felt like an intruder so I thought I'd better make my presense known. Now i feel better.

So how it goes. That's one crazy morning. Hopefully it can just get better from here. And I did see you at my bus stop. You looked sexy in those mom jeans.
