Holy Birthday's Batman!

I have a whole week of Birthdays to blog about! First was Meg's on Oct 3 and we actually got to spend it with her. She was in town to ski, but spent the night Saturday. We were pretty lucky. My Mom's birthday was last Monday. Hard, you ask? Not too bad. I think it is what it is. I decided that if I wanted it to be hard I could. I didn't. I'm sick of being sad and angry. Not that I don't have my moments. We got 6 blue balloons, wrote on them and sent them up to her. Good tradition. Maggie had a Birthday on Wednesday. She assured me she is 6, not 5.

McKinley had a Birthday on Tuesday. We have such great families. Every body called her and told her Happy Birthday. How cool is that? She got a new sewing machine and is almost done with a dress. So fun!

McKinley is a very unique kid. When she was 2 1/2 she was a total nightmare. For about 6 months it was all I could do not to kill her. She would wake up in the night throwing a giant fit. The only thing that would calm her down was Barney! I spent 6 months on the couch all night watching Barney. Then the fits started in the day too. All I could do was lock her in the bathroom and let her scream it out. She would hit and throw things. It was so awful. I know what all of you are thinking, "What? McKinley Johnson, no way." Which is the response I got from most people. Including my Mother. One day she witnessed a fit and believed me. Fast Forward 8 years, It was all worth it. I often wonder if she got out all the fits and disobedience in those 6 months. She is the most delightful child. She doesn't have an irresponsible bone in her body. She is a peacemaker. She loves her Gracie, they are the best of friends. She is a tender heart like her Dad. When he teases her, she gives it right back. She is very confident and doesn't care what anyone thinks. A trait I know she didn't get from me. She is an old soul. I know she was older than me in heaven. That is why she is a great example to our family. Happy 11th Birthday, McKinley!

And she plays the drums! Give this a little listen. I love it. Excuse the lady next to me screaming at the end. How obnoxious. Actually, I cannot tell a lie, it's me.

You are right, I can't believe she is the same child, but with or without the fits I love her just the same!

I love McKinley so much! I was present at her birth, and one of the hardest days of my life was when you took her away to live in Las Veeegas! I missed her so much, because we were two peas in a pod!

I am so thankful to have her as part of our family. You need to move closer so that the ONE day I finally have kids, she can be best of friends with them too! :)

How fun! Thanks for the video. Calvin and I enjoyed it. He danced and clapped and waved his arms.

Thanks for sharing the video - I could hear the drums Friday morning as I dropped kids off and wished I could have stayed to listen.
A sewing machine uh? That's awesome that she loves that, what a great lifelong skill. Taylor got an apron for her birthday - domestic goddesses in the the making!

I cannot imagine you shutting a child in the bathroom while she screams. It gives me a good laugh honestly. How do we survive the terrible temper years whenever they are, I will never know. Good thing she is an angel now. :)

Band must be a huge thing in Vegas becasue both of my nephews play drums too.

Happy Birthday Mckinley

We miss Kinney too! It was so fun to spend the summer with her. I am sure she was ready to go home but she is such a good girl we would have kept her forever.
