So, last week my McKinley tried out for the wiggling wolves (the dance team) at school. She also tested for G.a.t.e, which stands for gifted and talented education. My worst fear being that she would find out the same week that she didn't make either one. Well, my worst fear started on Wednesday when she ran to get the mail (something she has done since the day she took the test, hoping her results would be there). There was a letter from the gate teacher. I said a little prayer and opened the letter. I kind of had the same feelings of opening my Utah State admissions letter, skipping down all the rows of the paragraph finding the "accepted" word or the "sorry" word. Well, I found the "sorry" word. Now I had to break the news to the beautiful wide eyed girl starring at me. She was disappointed, but handled it quite well. It was comforting for her to know that she scored 92% and you had to score 98% to get in (don't you think a 92 is enough?). She explained that she didn't want more homework anyway.
Now for the good. Carter received his Arrow of Light award for scouting. I know you are all scouting handies so I will explain. The Arrow of Light is the highest award you can receive as a cub scout. So with a lot of help from his mother (oh my) he got it!!! Now he is officially a boy scout. That means no more Pinewood Derby (YES!!!!). I am done with cub scouts (YES!!!!!).
The other bad is that on Thursday McKinley came home with a huge smile on her face and said that they had announced Wigglin wolves. I said "did you make it!!!!". "NO". She totally was ok with it and didn't even have a frown. She was glad that she didn't have to go to morning practices.
Now, I know my child did not get her optimism from me. I need to learn a little from her example. She was rejected twice in one week and she kept a smile on her face, and looked for the good in both situations. Obviously, she had learned from her father. I was mad, but I couldn't show it because she was so fine with it. Wow the lessons we learn from our children. The next possible rejection, Choir. Next week is tryouts. She has to make something right?

Oh, poor Kinney. Tell her sorry for me. She really is quite the optimist, wow!
Congrats to Carter on his arrow of light. That sounds cool. Thank goodness I won't have to do scouts. I just get all the girly stuff like YW and gymnastics, and ballet, and emotional trauma, and temper tantrums, and....
I WANT SCOUTS INSTEAD!
Take care of Mimi for us.
